PATRICIA A. MURPHY  is a founding member of Murphy & James, LLC.

Ms. Murphy handles a wide variety of complex civil litigation matters and represents clients in the Trusts & Estates practice area.

Over the past 25 years, Ms. Murphy has represented clients in commercial,  class action, personal injury and property damage litigation matters. These cases have involved a variety of claims, including products liability, construction, brain injury, foster care, commercial disputes and a variety of other cases in the civil arena. She has represented corporate, individual and not-for-profit organizations and has litigated and tried cases in federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey.

In the Trusts & Estates area, Ms. Murphy handles estate litigation matters as well as estate planning for individuals, estate and trust administration, planned giving for charitable organizations and  estate tax returns.

Ms. Murphy was graduated magna cum laude from Boston College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Slavic Studies and Political Science. Boston College awarded her the distinction of “Order of the Cross and Crown” and “Scholar of the College” for her thesis entitled “Ethnicity Under Authoritarian Regimes: A Comparative Study of the Ukraine and Catalonia.” She also attended the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University. In 1983, she received her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law.

Ms. Murphy is admitted to the bar for the states of New York and New Jersey. She is also admitted to United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York; the United States District Court of New Jersey; and United States Court of Appeals for Second Circuit. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, The Rockland County Estate Planning Council, the  Professional Ski Instructors of America and is a Trustee of the Upper Ridgewood Tennis Club.  She is a former member of the Planned Giving Council for the Archdiocese of Newark, Banta Valley Center Board of the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the Brooklyn Bar Association, The New York Claims Association, and  Insurance Women in Claims.

Patricia also currently serves as “Of Counsel” to the Wall Street firm of Conway, Farrell, Curtin & Kelly, PC and “Of Counsel” to the firm of Brown, Brown & Kane LLP in Pearl River, New York.
